Your Hosts for the Evening

It's not just about beer and food. TOASTS with HOSTS is about all that goodness plus connecting with some amazing humans! We've brought together our own makers, Ben and Cam, added in a sprinkle of culinary genius, Alex from Grand Cru and topped it all off with a polished palette from Nicole Kasten of Beer Connections.

Ben Dobler

CO-FOUNDER + BREWMASTER
Hammer & Stitch Brewing Co

After nearly 30 years of working every possible position in the Portland beer world, Ben is now co-owner of his own line of beers and brand. Hammer & Stitch Brewing Co opened in October of 2020 with the goal of disrupting beer as usual by focusing on easy drinking, approachable lagers and ales. He developed the Standards and Creations menus to showcase exceptional ingredients and remove the mystique of ordering for the everyday lover of beer. We are thankful for Ben’s infectious laugh and his passion to create phenomenal experiences through Hammer & Stitch.

Cam Murphy

HEAD BREWER
Hammer & Stitch Brewing Co

Crafting has always been a driving force in Cam’s life. He spent his early years in the Portland beer industry pursuing any position possible that would get him closer to the make. He quickly rose to senior positions at both Laurelwood and Von Ebert, gaining invaluable experience about both the process and local industry that make him an ideal fit as Hammer & Stitch’s Head Brewer. Cam’s always welcoming demeanor and wildly eclectic music preferences are nearly as impressive as his beer knowledge -- we are ecstatic that he’s on our team!

Alex Chong

CO-OWNER
Grand Cru Hospitality

Alex Chong, along with his partner Executive Chef Patrick Miller, run Grand Cru Hospitality here in Portland. The specialty catering company serves up superior hospitality for large and small events, as well as several cafes and breweries throughout the city. The Hammer & Stitch team is thrilled to be food partners with Alex and his team! Alex has many years of catering management expertise and trained at the Culinary Institute of America in New York. He and his family are grateful to have landed in the Pacific Northwest and love to explore nature whenever possible.

Nicole Kasten

OWNER
Beer Connections

Nicole Kasten, owner of Beer Connections, consults with breweries and beer related businesses guiding them through change management, leadership development, and generational customer service. After beer geeking for several years, she left a career as a Corporate Trainer in Healthcare IT to help brewers become successful business owners. Nicole is on the Advisory Board of Brews for New Avenues, a Coordinator for SheBrew, PDX Beer Week Executive, and contributes her expertise to many more beer events. H&S loves seeing Nicole and her love for The IPA. We are super excited to have her on our panel for “Toasts with Hosts.”
